The Cause
World Kidney Day is a global campaign that aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. WKD is celebrated every second Thursday in March. Many individuals and organizations around the world celebrate this day by organizing different activities aimed at raising awareness of kidney disease.
Globally, chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects over 850 million people, causing more than 3.1 million deaths in 2019, with kidney dysfunction ranking as the 8th leading global cause of death, and is projected to become the fifth by 2040.
Recent breakthroughs in medication practices have demonstrated a substantial delay in CKD progression and mitigation of associated complications. However, disparities in accessing these advancements persist, highlighting the pressing need to shift focus towards awareness, capacity building, and ensuring equitable access to care. This requires a multi-level approach that encompasses health policies, healthcare system delivery, healthcare professionals, and patient engagement.
The World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee has declared 2024 to be the year of “Kidney Health for All – Advancing equitable access to care and optimal medication practice”. The 2024 campaign will focus on raising awareness of the importance of ensuring equitable access to appropriate treatment and care for people living with kidney disease, in order to improve their quality of life and delay the progression of the disease.
Narmada Kidney Foundation believes in sharing the knowledge & helping people to take care of their kidneys & prevent kidney diseases. We also organize weekly kidney workshops and webinars for Kidney patients & their families to make them understand Kidney Disease & options available for treatment. These workshops help the patients & their families to cope with the disease & plan appropriate treatment. Further, the Foundation works hard to create awareness about organ donation.
Keeping in mind the WKD theme we invite films on “Kidney Health for All”, “Prevention of kidney disease” and “Organ Donation”
