The Cause

World Kidney Day is a global campaign that aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. WKD is celebrated every second Thursday in March. Many individuals and organizations around the world celebrate this day by organizing different activities aimed at raising awareness of kidney disease.

Globally, chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects over 850 million people. If left undetected and not treated timely, CKD can progress to kidney failure, leading to severe complications and premature mortality. By 2040, CKD is  projected to become the fifth leading cause of years of life lost. This highlights the urgent need for global strategies to combat kidney disease.

The major risk factors for kidney disease are, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular disease, Obesity, Family history of kidney disease. Normally to detect kidney disease simple, non-invasive and cost effective tests like Blood Pressure measurements, Body Mass Index, Urine test for Albumin in urine, Blood Test for fasting glucose and serum creatinine are suggested. Early detection of kidney problems will reduce the healthcare costs associated with kidney failure and improve quality of life.

The World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee has declared 2025 to be the year of “Are your Kidneys OK? Detect early, protect kidney health”. The 2025 campaign will focus on raising awareness among the general population, promoting health, and implementing education programs that empower patients.

Narmada Kidney Foundation believes in sharing the knowledge & helping people to take care of their kidneys & prevent kidney diseases. We also organize weekly kidney workshops and webinars for Kidney patients & their families to make them understand Kidney Disease & options available for treatment. These workshops help the patients & their families to cope with the disease & plan appropriate treatment. Further, the Foundation works hard to create awareness about organ donation.

Keeping in mind the WKD theme we invite films on “Are your Kidneys OK?”,  Detect early, protect kidney health” and Organ Donation
