About Us

Narmada Kidney Foundation, will organize a short film competition “Kidney Chronicles – Kissey Kidney Ke” for the tenth consecutive year to celebrate World Kidney Day on 14th March, 2025.”

Don’t take your organs to heaven for God knows they are needed here!”

This is the slogan of Narmada Kidney Foundation, a Non Government Organization that aims to help people with kidney disease.

Seeing the rising incidence of chronic kidney disease, its devastating medical complications and its economic as well as social implications, Dr. Bharat Shah – one of the eminent Nephrologists of Mumbai, realized the need to set up the foundation. With the support of likeminded people, Dr. Bharat Shah set up Narmada Kidney Foundation in the year 1993. Narmada Kidney Foundation, over the years, has grown to be one of the largest kidney related NGOs in the country with a large membership.

Unfortunately, in our country, awareness about kidney disease is very low. Diabetes & Hypertension account for more than 60% cases of chronic kidney disease. Narmada Kidney Foundation holds free Kidney Disease Prevention Clinics to counsel & guide patients with diabetes & high BP to help them to take care of their kidneys and prevent kidney diseases.Early detection of Kidney problems always helps to take preventive measures in time. This also helps patients and their families understand kidney diseases and options for treatment.

In India, each year approximately 350,000 – 400,000 people develop kidney diseases.   There are only around 1000 dialysis centers in India that cater to about 10,000 (about 2%) patients. Only 4000 – 5000 (about 1%) are fortunate to go for transplants each year in the whole country. So what happens to the remaining 97% of the patients? God only knows! Narmada Kidney Foundation runs a campaign for creating awareness about the concept of organ donation & its legality.
